ABOUT US
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to reduce the number of line of duty deaths and injuries directly related to firefighter health and wellness.
ABOUT
All Hands Working is a charitable organization that was founded by Joe Gordon with the help of Danny Watkins. Prior to being drafted as the 23rd overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, Danny served as a volunteer firefighter in his hometown of West Kelowna, British Columbia. Joe Gordon is a career firefighter in Camden County, N.J. for IAFF Local 3249, and was a volunteer prior to his appointment. Danny and Joe formed a close bond of friendship and decided to do something to give back to the fire service. After noticing the amount of deaths and injuries firefighters were suffering a decision was made to form an organization that would prevent as many of these tragedies as possible. The birth of All Hands Working was a direct result of the bond firefighters have and the willingness to always give back to the fire service.

All Hands Working exists to reverse the statistic that shows firefighters have a 300% greater risk of suffering a heart attack by doing their job. The injuries firefighters are suffering and the line of duty deaths that occur are overwhelmingly related to the health and wellness of the firefighter. All Hands Working strives to provide the training and resources to firefighters to prevent line of duty deaths and injuries. Firefighters are athletes and they need to be educated on health and wellness in the same way that an athlete would be trained to perform at a high level. Athletes train year round to play a sport that takes place at a predetermined time. Firefighters do not have the luxury of knowing when the game will take place but the amount of energy and stress placed on the body shares a direct correlation.

Danny Watkins Danny Watkins

Danny, number 63, and an offensive guard for the Philadelphia Eagles was born in Canada, and became a firefighter in his hometown of Kelowna, British Columbia, at the age of 16. His high school offered a program where he could leave school and spend some time at the firehouse learning job skills. In the beginning it was just a reason to get out of class and go hang out at the fire station, but the fire service quickly became an important part of his life, which helped him decide to pursue a career as a firefighter. As such, Danny enrolled in Butte College to study fire science. While attending classes, he was quickly recruited by the football program, which he played for during the 2007-2008 season, until he transferred to Baylor University.

In the 2011 NFL draft, the Philadelphia Eagles drafted him as the 23rd overall pick. One of the first things Danny did upon arriving to Philadelphia was visit the local fire stations. Christina Pirello Christina Pirello
Nutrition Advisor

Christina Pirello, MFN, is one of America’s preeminent authorities on a healthier lifestyle utilizing natural and whole foods. This bright, free-spirited, vivacious redhead with a radiant personality delivers a much needed message to the world. She’s made it her purpose in life to show the world that everyone can look their best and feel great too, by learning to correctly select the best ingredients you have available.

Christina’s love affair with food began at a young age when she spent many happy hours cooking with her mother, who centered the family life in her Italian kitchen. “My mom was always so happy at family gatherings while she was cooking." That joy prepared Christina to understand the healing power of food. An understanding Christina would put to its test at age 26 when she was diagnosed with terminal leukemia. By the time her illness was identified, the cancer had already advanced to an acute stage. Her doctors gave her little chance of recovery, and her options with conventional medical therapies were limited. She was told she had only months to live and to prepare herself for the inevitable. She was discouraged and uncertain. A chance meeting with her now husband Robert Pirello would change her life forever. Robert, a whole foods advocate, helped Christina change her lifestyle and diet based on healthy eating incorporating whole and unprocessed foods. This change saved her life! Christina overcame the odds and in the process developed an expertise in cooking with whole foods.

From that time, she was utterly convinced of the close relationship between diet and health. She found her life’s calling was to help others discover the importance of this relationship in their own lives. Christina studied and became an expert in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, acupuncture and earned a Masters Degree in Nutrition and has authored seven cookbooks on the subject of healthy eating. Today, almost 29 years later, Christina is a glowing example and inspiration on the power that food choices have an overall impact on health and well-being.

Utilizing her world-respected TV show “Christina Cooks" and her many books she is “Changing the Health of the World One Meal at a Time.”
